English: A sailor onboard HMS Albion mans a Mk44 minigun during an exercise.

The Mk44 Mini-Gun is a high velocity; high rate of fire six barreled rotary gun. The primary role for the Mk 44 is own-ship protection against Fast Inshore Attack Craft/Fast Attack Craft. The secondary role is Low Level Air Defense (LLAD). The gun fires 7.62 mm ammunition and is capable of firing at a rate of 3,000 rounds per minute.
